Poolesville HS Swim and Dive

The Sarah E. Auer Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Auer family to recognize graduating seniors from the swimming community who not only are competitive swimmers but also exhibit noteworthy qualities in leadership and academic endeavor.

Sarah Auer was a competitive swimmer and a strong student. Sarah swam competitively in the Montgomery County Swim League for the Poolesville Piranhas, competed on several club teams, and the PHS team where she was the MVP for all four years. She went on to swim at the collegiate level both at LaSalle University and Catholic University. She also played soccer and field hockey while at PHS. Sarah exemplified the virtues of hard work and dedication in all that she did. While a successful individual swimmer, she also appreciated the importance of working positively as a team member to contribute to the team’s success. Sarah’s great promise was tragically ended when she was killed in an auto accident in December 2002 at the age of 21.

To create some good out of this loss, the Auer family has generously created this scholarship fund for high school seniors who are outstanding role models in the swimming community within Montgomery County Swim League, Poolesville HS, and the local Poolesville Piranha Swim Team (where Sarah grew up, swam for, and coached).  Due to IRS changes, in 2020, the scholarship award shifted to an award scholarship for Poolesville HS seniors that work to be models of the positive virtues that Sarah embodied.
